TOP CLASS ! My wife and I were over at the SOCO & The OC Mix ( retail stores / eatery complex ) for the first time about a week ago. While looking around I ran into Alex at The Getaway Barbershop. I was in need of a hair-cut and Alex gave me his business card. Early this week I jumped on their website and booked an 11am slot on Saturday for a classic hair-cut ( from their sliding scale ). The charge was $50 payable by cash or Venmo for a 40 minute session. I arrived on the dot of 11am and Alex was almost ready.....he wanted to clean things up a bit after his last job. I showed him a photo of my most recent hair-cut to give him a visual idea of how I like my hair to look. In words short at the back and sides, trim the sideburns and leave some volume on top. EASY PEASY ! Alex is a HAIR ARTIST and like any pro barber goes about his work in a thorough methodical manner. We a nice chat about many things during the course of my hair-cut. The shop has a nice feel, vibe, look, a bit hip...not like old school barbershops. My wife even dropped by and took a few pics near the end. A BIT OF FUN ! After we were finished I handed Alex a $100 bill and asked for $40 change...a 20% tip. My wife said my hair-cut looked great and it should for a $60 outlay. I have had a million great hair-cuts in my life and Alex did as good a job as anyone. HARD TO BEAT !

Alex took care of me. The absolute best service. 10 years of experience and talent. Always asked to make sure throughout my haircut that he is cutting correctly to the vision I had inside my head. We had a great conversation throughout my appointment where it didn't feel like I was getting a haircut anymore and just two friends catching up. Overall great vibes and an amazing haircut. Felt like I was ready for whatever Friday night I had to offer. 10/10 rating

I highly recommend seeing Alex. He did a fantastic job on my hair and beard. He really focuses on details and an overall chill guy to talk to. This was my first time ever going to a barber and it wont be my last now!

Almost 9 years from the last review to this one, so you better believe there was a reason for me to hop back on yelp to review a place and if that was your assumption you would be correct! Had the fortune of getting my haircut by Alex a few times recently (after going to the same person for about 7 years) and it was one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. Not only was the haircut fantastic, and wifey approved which is a huge plus, but he is a genuine joy to chat with which is always hard to find these days. Unless he decides to stop being a barber, I plan to get my haircut by him for as long as I can visit Getaway Barbershop!

Was leaving south coast after trying on my tux and realized the hair and tux combo just wasnt going to cut it and wanted to get it cut immediately. Had the pleasure of finding Alex after searching online for a barber. I am always skeptical getting my haircut because the majority of the time they mess it up even after i tell them what and how i am looking to get my hair cut. Alex did an amazing job. You can tell he has a passion to cut hair and it showed in his technique and attention to detail. You know he has skills when he basically did a slight fade for me with just scissors (keep in mind i been growing my hair out since covid started so a fade was not simple). Normally it take me a week after some hair grows out for me to start to agree with the hairstyle but right away i was very happy. Its been years since i found someone i can trust to make me look like a billion bucks. Alex is the man. If you are looking for a true professional and have a chill conversation, look no further. I highly recommend the get away and especially Alex. I know i will be using him from this point forward. Place is very chill inside as well!

Alex is the man. He is very skilled and passionate about what he does. I can tell he really cares about his clients and his craft. I would definitely recommend! Also the shave was amazing!

This review is long overdue. Alex is the best of the best. I feel lucky to have found him. Alex defines a great men's haircut. Appropriate cut length, with the hairstyle that fits face/head. Alex is stylist/barber who knows how to cut the client's style or cuts according to the client's wishes, and blending.

I've moved a lot in the last couple years, and my greatest fear each time is finding a new place to cut my hair. It takes a couple tries in each new location and it's always nerve wracking. After reading reviews of this place I decided to go for it and thank god I did. Alex is the best. An absolute professional. And An all star human being.
